Immerse yourself in a historical and cultural guided tour of the vibrant city of Athens on a modern e-bike! Welcoming adventurers from ages 14 and up.
Athens is the largest and capital city of Greece, situated on the mainland of the country. It is a culturally rich city, one of the oldest in the world with history dating back over 3,400 years. Visitors can discover its numerous museums, galleries, and theatres, as well as enjoy the city's lively nightlife and culinary delights. On this tour, you will discover the classical parts of Athens while cycling through the city!
For this activity, you can book a tour with an English or French-speaking guide. You will start by meeting your experienced guide at the starting point in Athens. After receiving your modern e-bike and equipment, they will take you through a safety briefing and itinerary for the day. The group is small, with a maximum of 10 participants, to enjoy a personalised experience. Once you are prepared with your bike and helmet, the adventure begins!
The route starts around the legendary Acropolis, one of the most famous and significant landmarks in Greece and indeed the world. It is considered one of the finest examples of Doric architecture and is renowned for its architectural symmetry, proportions, and decorative sculptures. You will cycle down the ancient streets, where the world’s renowned philosophers used to walk. The guide will share facts about the history of Athens as you cycle.
The tour takes you up to Mars Hill, over the ancient Agora, and then down through Thission until you reach Keramikos, an ancient archaeological site and cemetery. You will then pedal through the lively neighbourhood of Psiri, taking a break to enjoy a traditional “koulouri”. This is a local Greek snack, a type of circular bread similar to a bagel, typically made from wheat flour and topped with sesame seeds. After your snack, you will explore the heart of the city in Hadrian Street‘s vibrant boutiques and Plaka‘s cobblestone alleys.
The tour then continues to the iconic Hadrian’s Arch, a monumental gateway constructed to honour the Roman Emperor Hadrian's arrival in Athens. You will also pass the Temple of Olympian Zeus, an ancient Greek temple dedicated to the king of the gods. After, you will stand in front of the famous Kallimarmaro, the Olympic Stadium. Coming to the end of the cycle, you will explore Zappion, an elegant building located in the National Gardens of Athens, right near the historic centre of the city. It was constructed between 1874 and 1888, and its design was inspired by ancient Greek architecture.
In the centre, you will also witness the ‘Evzones’ at the Presidential Mansion. These are the Presidential Guards, who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens and conduct ceremonial duties. The final stop on the tour is the iconic Roman Baths, another famous historical site in Athens. The exciting biking trip comes to an end here.
